This fire is currently 0.5 hectares (estimated). Helicopter bucketing was undertaken periodically from discovery to July 16. Crews monitored the fire for smoke, and undertook bucketing and patroling the base of the fire as needed.
A rappel crew (RAP) and helicopter arrived to the fire on July 17, consisting of 3 personnel capable of Extreme Slope firefighting, a fire spotter, a pilot and helicopter outfitted with a belly tank.
On July 17, the helicopter doused the hot spots with water by flying at the cliff face then swooping upwards as the water was released from the belly tank. This propelled the water in a more horizontal trajectory, with the intent of driving the water into the crevasses and under ledges to dampen the fuels.
The RAP crew was able to reach the burning areas on the cliff face by rappelling down the cliff, and worked to dislodge and extinguish the hot spots within the rock face. An Initial Attack crew worked to supply water to assist the RAP crew's efforts. The crews continue to work on the fire on July 20th. The helicopter has returned to its base but the RAP crew has remained. An Infrared Scan is planned for July 21 to determine what hotspots remain on the fire.
Good progress was made during July 20. An infrared Scan was performed on July 21 showing all areas cold. Area is now in Patrol stage.
